There's jidai geki TV series and films just as there's jidai geki novels, video games, anime, and manga. You asked for other works in the same genre, so I replied with a few that I thought were particularly good.
The Twelve Kingdoms and Teito Monogatari are both novels that got an anime adaptation, however.
