Back during like 2011, when NicoNico was still big enough to find daily Touhou circle works,
they featured Danganronpa ads with Monokuma (the black and white bear from it).
These were /jp/ culture ads that anybody going on there encountered
because ads weren't yet tailored by Google Analytics.
It seems like Snooki/Smosh/Big Bang Theory kept normies away from weeb sites.
I'm just making guesses as to why the internet was a centillion times better then,
but I do know exactly what THE scene was like 11 years ago.
To anyone that got online after 2013:
Don't go thinking your scene was THE scene because it sure the fuck wasn't.
You will not find the likes of 495GO! among newly uploaded NicoNicontent
because back then SPECIFICALLY was THE scene, unlike your later "scene".
They had fuckin' HYADAIN and KAMS.
It seems like this was all before they tried replacing Touhou with KanColle
then ZUN's anticlimactic visit to Atlanta
where lardasses dressed as Cirno/Yuyuko showed up, and GTAV ended up SUCKING.
The 2010s seemed like NOTHING after that point,
in fact, everything started seeming like NOTHING.
It's like they started releasing microwave pulses to fry the part(s)
of our brains that makes things seem soulful and real.
