How is it a lie? There's a whole new market of people who are buying up all the graphics cards they can and hooking them up in sequence to have them crunch numbers. And they buy up the old cards and the new ones because they can both make them money.

That raises the demand and Nvidia and AMD either don't have the capacity to expand their production to meet all that demand or don't want to so the prices go up and we get fucked and the chip makers make bank.

Its not price fixing its just the companies taking advantage of high demand. It sucks for the consumer but I can't say I blame the company for trying to make as much money as possible that's what they do.

Why would you think these farms would be set up in areas where power is expensive? Or pay for electricity at all. You are probably paying 10 times as much per KW than most countries out there. Also you probably are not running hardware specifically tuned to do mining with software specifically tuned to mine.
Also if they buy GPUs at msrp with bots, and then resell them after half a year to a year, they still make profit off that alone.

if it was anything else, it would have affected all other pc components equally, and it hasn't
i can get pretty much any other component for MSRP easily (DDR5 is an exception, for complicated reasons, will be fixed shortly)

-mining will soon go away.
ETH is going POS soon (will no longer be mined on GPUs)
and ETH is 97% of so of all gpu mining revenue.
also, the crypto market isn't doing too well anymore, the bull market is coming to an end
and when either of the above comes to pass, at least 20 million miner gpus will flood ebay and prices will fall like a rock

-mining is a retarded investment, and has been a retarded investment since the first asics for bitcoin came out.
at literally any point in time, you would have been better off investing in crypto than investing in gpus and mining

nvidia made more cards than previous years
amd was kinda constrained, they had to make ryzen cpus, rdna2 gpus, ps5s and xboxs all from the same supply of tsmc 7nm wafers
but, as a whole, there was no shortage of gpus, they were produced in normal numbers

The problem is and always has been with the fabs who produce the wafers that are used to cut the GPUs from. Those same wafers are used to cut modern CPUs, phone chips, console APUs, smart chips for cars, and all sorts of other things. The problem is not with the manufactureres producing cards, its with the supply of wafers. In part that supply is low due to covid but the demand also spiked at the same time, we saw the launch of the PS5 and Xbox at the same time both of which will need to supply hundeds of millions of units along side the tens of millions of CPUs and GPUs sold every year.

It's why no one can get a hold of a console anymore than the can get a hold of a GPU.

if you understood how graphics work (hint: it's all matrix transforms) and the platforms each manufacturuer offers you would know why some prefer one over the other; but, seeing as how you are an uneducated retard I'll spell it out:
1. NVidia Cuda cores are "larger" "busses" that can handle larger transforms with bigger matricies
2. AMD's stream processors are "smaller" that do more matricies (more "busses")
This is why NVidia cards and AMD cards don't have equal numbers of Cuda cores to Stream Processors
Developers optimize for market share and one brand can outperform the other for a specific title - that's why you check what their recommended specs are and if they mention AMD or NVidia for the game you want.

It's really not so simple. When I bought my 1660 Super it was the best bang for buck at my pricepoint. At different pricepoints and applications, different cards can be better or worse.
Also, AMD's product lineup confuses me.
But that said, my next GPU will probably be AMD if only for the better Linux drivers.

In March -May 2020, Factories were shut down then slowed, then slowed again due to part shortages due to other factories down the supply chain shutting down, slowing down work.
