I love occidental animation, but can't stand to anime. Why? It's simple:
When I think in animated media, I'm expecting to watch something which resembles reality, inspired by reality, but that it's not reality. If I wanted to watch reality, I'd rather go outside or watch a reality show, not a mediocre approximation.
Animes try too hard to look like reality, constantly trying to follow aesthetical, logical and physical laws of the real world. Their stylized drawing techniques are obvious, pathetic tries to get reality fit in a screen.
Occidental animation, by the other hand, knows that it can't replace/mimic reality, so it doesn't try to (and, even better, mocks at it). Instead, they simplify abstract concepts and get around the complexities of your real world to explore ideal situations.
