What I did was focus on my heartbeat and tell myself I was dreaming (in reality). My goal is to talk to the nightmare woman and come to some sort of arrangement with her. Whenever I have one of those dreams my heart starts beating really fast so I figured I could use that to trigger a lucid dream.
The shadow person can read letters though, so why not tell her what you'd consider a nice gift?
