Here’s a short lesson
Stimming is short for stimulating and is known as self stimulating acts. It’s small self stimulating actions a person does, well, for stimulus. People usually do them when they’re bored, or nervous, or sad.
Some examples include:
>tapping fingers>bouncing leg>tapping foot>scratching >going through hair >and tons more etc As you can see, stimming is any action. Stimming is something everyone does. That weird twitch you do when you’re scared? The hands rubbing when you’re nervous? The leg bouncing when you’re bored? All considered Stimming. It’s a natural thing for people to do.
Now what does that have to do with people with autism and ADHD?
Autistic people do need stimulus like us and will do Stimming to stimulate themselves. The problem is how we can control when we do these Stimming actions and what Stimming actions we do. To use, bouncing our legs or rubbing our hands are normal behavior people at do when they’re bored. Autistic people can’t control their behavior (well) and will stim whenever, like inappropriate situation. The stimming actions are also considered weird.
Examples I’ve seen.
>screaming/groaning >rubbing stomach>rubbing testicles>flailing arms>jumping in place>flailing toys These actions + the timing is what gives the stereotype of autistic sperg outs or autistic people just being weird.
So now whenever you see an autistic person doing something retard, it’s probably cause they’re bored out their minds
Remember.
Everyone does stimming. stimming is such a fucking gay name for it however.
The traditional name is self stimulating behavior which might help other anons conceptualise it. You’re not autistic if you do them. Autistic people have problems that worsen the problem for them.
