https://www.quora.com/How-do-people-tear-their-biceps-Should-I-train-heavy-with-biceps-curlsMost of the time when you hear about torn biceps it’s done in sports like American football and rugby with a traumatic impact where the muscle is violently pulled and torn.
Tearing muscles in bodybuilding exercises if very uncommon with one carveout that I’ll address below. If you’re doing bodybuilding exercises correctly they should be smooth, not jerky, and very much in control. If you concentrate on using good form and not swinging weights around there’s an almost zero chance of tearing muscles. Sure, over the long term you may have some tendonitis but that’s something that happens over years.
It’s more common in Olympic weightlifting to tear muscles like the biceps because it’s much more of an explosive move but even then it’s more likely to be a bad pull or a strained tendon. I suppose deadlifts could be included here, but tears more likely occur because of the reason below and/or when someone is pulling a massive amount of weight.
When people tear muscle and tendons-and I’m talking actually tear and not pull-it’s usually due to PEDs use. Steroids and HGH allow muscles to grow very quickly and become much stronger in a very short amount of time, but your tendons and other connective tissue don’t have time to strengthen as much as the muscles and they tear.
Feel free to train heavy but be smart about it. Concentrate on using perfect form rather than the number of pounds/kilos you’re lifting. You’ll get far better results curling a 50 lb barbell using perfect form rather than swinging an 80 lb bar all over the place using your back and momentum to perform the exercise.
