The attack began right when the Canadian government made their play to try and retake the Ambassador bridge and right when the livestream feeds in France started to get taken down one by one. I was recording some of the French streams and the cops were getting pushed back by the mobs, explosions were going off, and there was sporadic gunfire at their protests. The Honkening thread was extremely active leading up to the attack.
Just speculation, but it seems like a distinct possibility.
