yes, i know it was kim sejeong from gugudan. the story is actually pretty similar to the way cyrillic came about except it was more like 5-6 people involved instead of one.
byzantium, a greek speaking empire had slav subjects. a couple of greek scholars decided greek alphabet wasn't so good for slav phonetics, so they created a new alphabet for us - glagolitic and started spreading it among nearby slavs. but a couple of their bulgarian disciples thought that glagolitic was too elaborate for shit-eating slavs so they decided to come up with a usable alphabet of their own. and that's how cyrillic came about. the bulgarian emperor took a liking to it so he funded schools to spread it here and funded missionaries to go abroad and teach it to other shit eating slavs. it took in in russia and serbia but was soundly rejected and btfod in czechia
anyway, i meant that the origin story is similar and i can believe the power of a few individuals to force it on everybody. i think cyrillic is better at conveying sounds than the latin alphabet, but hangul is really a thing of beauty. representing 우 as u and 유 as yu is brilliant. and when i type on my keyboard, it's pretty obvious hangul operates under some very strict rules and there's an underlying algorithm that concerns what you can do and what you can't. very admirable.
but yes, cyrillic originated in bulgaria, check this out if you don't believe me
