My father's side grandfather died when I was very young, but he wrote a journal detailing his early life
He was from a family of very poor peasants; he and his siblings only wore shirts over nothing even in winter, and his father died in ww2 - they were told that he got run over by a tank, but when they received his military clothes, it was evident that he was executed by firing squad
My father's side grandmother was from a family of rich peasants, but during the war they were forced to house at first german and then russian troops, and they used up almost all of their wealth and livestock. She still lives in Ungheni and has a collection of old romanian silver coins and jewelry and that's pretty cool
My mother's side grandfather's parents died during the war and he became an orphan, living by himself. We went to his village a few times and all that was left of it were old ruins and a large cemetary. He became a very successful businessman and politician in the soviet union
My mother's side grandmother was also a city-dweller, from Tiraspol. I've got nothing else to say but.. uhh.. She went to university in Odessa at 14?
I don't think we had any nobles in our family. All of our family names are commoner names (based on professions, colours, etc). Grandma's maiden name is of greek origin though (omg we were phanariotes 300 years ago??)
