They can't reliably ship product into the county due to sanctions. It's the same deal with Japanese automakers. Rather than keep their businesses open with half the products missing or unavailable, they're just cutting their losses and shuttering their businesses until they can reopen.

I mean, this is McDonalds. They practically jumped through hoops and trojan horse'd their way into the market through their Canadian subsidiary years ago back when the Soviet Union was at odds with the US. They would probably open locations in North Korea if they could.
"Temporarily" seems to heavily imply they're still keeping all their holdings in the country ready to reopen. It might look like some kind of face-saving move on the surface, and maybe that's a factor, but with a company like McDonalds? My money's on the money.

They're not actually closing down. That's a lie designed to save face. Russia is straight up seizing corporate assets and Biden is too weak to retaliate. His sanctions are a cruel joke that will hurt Americans more than anyone.
