when I was a kid my church's pastor said christmas was a pagan holiday and nobody should celebrate it, so my family never did and i never got any christmas presents
i didn't care about it at the time but now i'm a little bummed, feels like i missed out on a fun experience

It's hard to say if christmas really was a pagan holiday. There was Saturnalia which included gift giving and other ceremonies about the ending of winter. But he's right that the bible never says you should celebrate the nativity but places alot of emphasis on his jesus' resurrection/easter

I like christimas but not for that gay present shit, the celebration itself is so great, it's the one time of the year you can feel a magic in the air
too bad my mom and women in general always try to ruin everything good

I heard there were two people that came to the conclusion Jesus was born that day, the guy in charge of establishing the celebration itself, and there was also a belgian woman who dedicated almost her entire life to study this question, and both came up with the same answer

The Christians were a small cult at the time, but they supported Constantine during the civil war. He won and made Christianity an official state religion. Saturnalia was Dec 17-23... and just another form of winter solstice celebration found through out the world. They added the 24th for Christmas.... so it ended up being over a week of state sponsored celebration. It wasn't until about 390 when Theodosis made "paganism" illegal that the celebration shrunk. If you are missing out on anything it is Saturnalia. Fucking Christians stole a full week of state sponsored party from us.
