>>14682350This is an interesting work of art. I have never seen someone depict the complex nature of man within such a simple yet powerful image. It convinces me that perhaps man is not such a convoluted creature after all. Here we see a circle that possesses imperfections - in fact we can clearly see that the initial starting point of the circle does not connect with the end of the stroke that made the circle, and yet, what remains is still recognizable as a circle. The circle being off-center despite being the only subject matter in the entire piece is a nuance metaphor of how man is not at the center of the universe, but only slightly at it.
This piece does not depict a shape, but rather, the painful journey of a man. His path - ragged and unsteady - struggles to keep itself in line with geometric perfection. However, regardless of the knowledge that making a perfect circle is a hopeless one, the man remains steadfast and completes his journey. He does not form a perfect circle, but he succeeds in creating something that can be recognized as a circle, which gives life into what would be an otherwise empty canvas.
This drawing tells me that humans are imperfect, and that it is okay. Because it's not what we do that defines us, but what we set out to achieve. And whether we fail or succeed, our efforts are not done so in vain, for they breathe life into an empty void.
