Suppose we lived in a universe where the the Soviet Union won the Cold War and the USA split apart into pieces. Thirty years afterwards, the Warsaw Pact tries to invite The South to the Warsaw Pact and host nuclear armaments there. And let's say a nuclear armed New England then proceeds to invade The South preemptively because it feels threatened by the Warsaw Pact's invitation (justifiably). And then the Warsaw Pact condemns New England for "aggression" and starts economic sanctions. Even though it was really the Warsaw Pact who acts aggressively and everything.
Is this the situation in Ukraine from a Russian perspective? I'm just wondering.
