Planks are all different lengths and width, ntm the color work is just straight up shit. I mean, they didn't really "plan" it from what you can see. Kinda just threw them on the floor and fitted them.

I honestly don’t even notice. It seems relatively wear resistant (which is good because I have a dog and kids) and besides the odd shit matching section it is just in the background. The one thing that bugs me is that because it is printed you can see repeated “grain” like someone copy and pasted your floor, which is pretty lame.

Maybe if I reach boomer wealth level I’ll get a hardwood floor but at this point I cannot imagine spending money on something so pointless and frivolous.

removed bathroom floor tile. Large ceramic squares were on top of smaller tiles that may have took forever to place. Pic related doesn’t do it justice, I bet it looked 10x better in its prime

Kitchen floor was similar except I installed vinyl plank flooring. I didn’t care to check if it had VOC’s in it because the price & look was more important

Popcorn ceiling covered with bag mud. I found it comical that a ceiling that carries the risk of exposing people to asbestos when scraped is being covered with bag mud which has a cancer warning on the bag

The cabinets are made of particle board. The ones made with the house were genuinely well built

I used to like this when I was looking for apartments back in Texas.
But now that I'm back in California, I realize that they just throw this on the ground, paint over the deteriorating wood cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms, and MAYBE put lazy faux marble on the countertops.
Which is probably also just paint.
If they do this, then they get to charge $2,700 a month for a 300 sqft apartment in a crime-ridden neighborhood because it's "UPDATED".
I hate this place.

Also countertops will probably be made of epoxy or be Formica. Both options that I’m considering is meant to be made to imitate something real (marble or granite look). I think with both you cannot put a hot pan right off the stove on the countertop. I may try cement but it’s amazing how good places have gotten making cheap plastic versions of real things. When I worked for a couple of house flipping guys we would put that exact same vinyl flooring in every house. I did about 40 floors in two years. it's a pretty good product if you install it good

Ideally at least 6 inches from another seam in another row. You can get away with it if it's two rows away. Easiest way to do this is start like 4 or 5 rows with cut pieces precut in a stagger, and you just fill them in since you've already started with buffer lengths. Did installation and sanding/refinishing for 6 years in new construction and like 400 year old New England homes.

Nah. You hit it with a large commercial flooring sander like you would with a typical hardwood floor and then you have to orbital sand every other square going the opposite direction. No need to scrape anything since you would typically run a edging sander around the permitter anyways which always has to be followed up with an orbital sander. Otherwise they leave nasty scratch marks that are noticeable under poly finish. Scraping is mostly only useful when you’re resanding a floor and need to hit the corners.

This guy is kinda right, I know a guy that mills and sells red oak for flooring, it's a durable enough wood, but it's kinda shitty these days because it used to be almost an inch, about 3/4 after dimensioning, but now that stuff looks like it's less than half an inch and I don't see the tongue and grooves and there is a lot of unstable wood there. Lots of sap and knots. That one at the bottom left is gonna warp when the weather changes. And yes, I absolutely know wood.

One thing I notice when I travel is how simple and practical the rest of the world is compared to America. It's like the rest of the world doesn't care if their life is surrounded by drab. It's 3/4 T&G, actual. You are correct that there was not a lot of usable pieces, being I could only use about half of what I bought, the rest went right into the fuckit bucket. If it was going to warp, it would have done so in the two years since i've laid that floor, has yet to do so.

Well, congrats, but that's a whole lotta tension and crouch in those floorboards. I like the look myself for a box top, or a table top, but that's little hectic for my taste. I have 3 pallets of 30 year old red oak at my hosue in 8-12ft lengths at 3.5 inches, and about 90% of it has zero crotch and no knots.

Flipping is just pure efficiency because I can make all the decisions instantly solely on cost, time, return on investment.. a client sometimes has you do some irrational shit for reasons like nostalgia or something so there's a whole different logic behind it.

Gray floors, especially vinyl floors are a trend that dated millennials think is still hip despite it dying in 2014. Renters pint the walls taupe aka gray tones, because they buy leftover paint and just mix the shit together to save a buck, the end result: ugly fucking gray. By the way, engineered hardwood with wide cheesy planks is ugly just like cheap vinyl flooring. As per usual, 4chan niggers have no taste. Also to add, maximalism and saturated pops of color are the coming back in vogue circa 2022; minimalism is played out. Not that I agree with the current trend, but ehhh.

I have a client from Boston who retired to my rural area of small towns. His new town has 500 people in it and he thinks he's a real country boy now, it's hilarious. He spends more time gearing up to mow his lawn than my farming buddy does to harvest 3000 acres of corn. People love the homestead lifestyle. Mostly comfortable people who aren't forced to do that every day.
