Your local grocery store seems a bit silly. Mine have dedicated asian and latino sections, but for the most part, things aren't sorted by nationality. If I wanted German sausage, it would be in the meat section. Sauerkraut would be in some canned/jarred food section.

okay, so if it is that bad, what would I want to eat to get an authentic (and preferably tasty) german dining experience? Fill me in, I'm a good cook, mostly asian, dutch, and american, but I'm always looking to expand my repertoire.

Now I know why people from the US say german food tastes like shit.
What they do on the menu is give the dish a german/austrian/swiss name, pervert it to the extreme and pour random sauces/cheese over it.

Most of the german kitchen is very straight forward and without much extras. Gonna check some recipes worth to post...
