Averages are misleading.
If 99 people earn a dollar a year, and 1 person earns 100,000 a year, the median income is 1000 per year. This does not in any way reflect the majority.
All it takes is a few rich as fuck Indians to throw that median number way off

No, that's not true at all... what your example reflects and what you are referring to is the mean, not the median. In a simplistic sense, the median refers to the actual income of the person in the middle of the pack (50 percentile) which in your example is 1 dollar a year.
