Vitamin D you can take 1000IU to 4000IU but I usually take around 2000IU (two pills usually) -- be aware of Vitamin D that has been added to to foods you already consume, e.g. Milk -- if there is already Vitamin D in your milk adjust dosage accordingly, as too much vitamin D can damage your organs.
I've never heard of anyone dying from too much Vitamin C, you'll diarrhea it out first, the danger is dehydration -- so if you get diarrhea, stop taking Vitamin C, but even though the label on 500mg Vitamin C says 3 times a day, I find it helpful to take it 9 times a day when I'm sick -- space that out.
Vitamin C can upset your digestive system, as does stuff like garlic and onion, black pepper, which is good for treating cold symptoms. Ginger and Parsley will settle your digestive system.
It's easy to get dehydrated when you are blowing your nose a lot, you are not just losing water but salt, so rehydrate with 'chicken stock', if you have chicken concentrate, a spoon of that with black pepper and dried herbs then hot water.
