You know what's really fucking weird? In Ancient China the lore was the Emperor had Golden Skin and the regular people had White Skin. Later, as the meme deteriorated, every person of the kingdom had Yellow Skin, but the Emperor was still Gold. And since all Asian culture is literally derived, almost cherry picked, from Chinese culture this story is prominent (save for the Jomon hillbillies crying genocide out in the northern Islands.) It makes sense that they believe themselves to have white AND yellow skin because they have been told that since antiquity.
