Well, there's plenty of regional dialects like twents, limburs, zeeuws and many more. There's even some dialects specific to a single city like haags in The Hague. Then there's Frisian which is a seperate language from dutch entirely. Most people have no idea how much variety there is in the dutch language, it's pretty crazy for such a small country. It's a shame they are dying out though. In most cases only the old people speak them although younger generations generally have an accent in certain regions.

What about Iceland OP?

yea it's pretty sad. Here in Fryslan half of city folk don't speak it anymore some don't even understand it even tough they've lived here their whole lifes. Also even in Frisian you have dialect that are just sound almost entirely different like in Franeker.

At least Frisian won't be entirely forgotten, since there's enough people that have written it down. For many dialects this isn't the case. Even if Frisian dies as a spoken language it won't be forgotten completely since it's a language write in as well and it is even taught in schools if i'm not mistaken. Won't change the likelyhood of it dying out as a spoken language eventually. It's a shame but it seems inevitable.

Frisian is more a speaking language than a writing language tho. Writing it is just too weird lots of y and v and f at places that seems very unnatural if you know dutch. Dutch will probably end up being taken over by English just look at universities that are already doing full courses in English even tough only 3/100 students are foreign. Amsterdam is a good example as well where they approach people in English and not in Dutch. It makes my cry a little inside.

Sorry about the late reply, had some things to do.
Icelandic is pretty much intelligible throughout the nation.
The only example that might count are how people from Akureyri talk.
They often put weird emphasis on certain letters (especially k) and use some odd words.
But I've never seen anyone who couldn't understand an Akureyring.
