The third one usually. And the first 2-3 few runs are test runs to learn the game if I'm getting a new rpg, so those characters are just random. If I like a game enough to get past the learning phase then you'll see me play the most over-powered fucker I can make. But I don't like most games that much.

Interesting! It took me the longest time to understand why men would play as girls in MMORPGs, but I wasn't thinking about 'the best advantage' as some people do.

I rarely play MMO, I mostly go for singleplayer stuff. Sure, optimising can be a thing when choosing to play girl, but most of those people just have low testosterone.

A game is for entertainment, but I find entertainment in the things that happen. I've never once identified with a character or thought about them being me in any way. I'd be a fucking furry if I did, I grew up playing Sonic.

That's a cool perspective, I always saw an avatar as an extension of myself e.g. Sonic was their own character but an extension of me as I was the one controlling him.

Some people fall in love with that control they have over their character, and thus the character themselves. I think that's where your furry worry comes from.

Yep, that makes sense and I gather that's a very common way to see things and why silent protagonists are so popular. No chance of the character saying something you don't agree with and breaking the illusion.
For me it's more of a directorial role where the character is their own, but I guide their actions. In fact, some of my favorite games are the ones where control is slowly taken away from you as a player to represent the character's degradation or growing autonomy.

I'm a role player who makes different characters and tries new stuff all the time. Often they have backstory and stuff. For example, my first Elden Ring character was an old guy paladin while the second one is a female assassin

That's cool, so you like to collect them all? I've done the same, but just variations of myself (either upgrades in new game plus or variations on a version of myself).

Actually, you're right! I remember a while ago there was a marI/O bot which was built to use machine learning to try and play all the way through the original Super Mario game and people would tune in to watch it. Wouldn't be surprised if it's happening on Twitch now.
