So in red fox families, the father fox goes out and gets food for the mother fox and her baby. If you give that fox a paternity test and he finds out the baby aren't "his" and he decides to go off and "win at evolution" where does that leave those baby foxes? The baby foxes might well die or freeze to death since now the mother fox would have to go off and find food for them. This is a break in the natural order. Nature hides genetic paternity from men, and it hides it for a reason--to give babies a better chance at survival.

French babies might not literally starve or freeze to death, but they'll have a much better life with a father in the picture.

Animals often avoid alloparental behaviour because it is dysgenic.
