The things they wanted were fairly reasonable like allowing Arabs to serve in the Ottoman military, restoration of the 1876 constitution as the Sultan was exercising powers he wasn't supposed to have, maybe try and do something about the British controlling Egypt in all but name, etc. The Ottomans responded by shooting them.
I used to always think "oh the Arabs are just religious fanatics, they probably wanted some crazy hyper-religious state" but after reading up on it, the Ottomans seemed to be doing everything in their power to keep their boot on the middle east's neck.
