It is politics though. Jesus's entrance into Jerusalem was a declaration of his Davidic Messiahship, a inherently political act. He was also put to death for political reasons as his claim to be the Messiah (King of the Jews) was seen as a political threat to Rome.

There is no need for magical thinking.
Jesus was never about magical thinking, that was the work of others poisoning the reason and sound logic of natural law.
There has always been consiquences for violation of Gods laws. Some think these consiquences can be forgiven.
