Whenever our planet runs out of energy, Kagari is sent to check up on it. She's basically the planet's spirit.
She can, if dissatisfied with the world, initiate destruction and restart evolution.
In the story of Rewrite, the world is running out of possible ways of continuing. By resetting over and over, and checking every single timeline, the Kagari on the moon (there's 2, one on Earth simply resetting and looking for "good memories" and one of the moon checking every single timeline for life) sets out to find the route that will let the world continue on.
She has ribbons made of Aurora, which can be shaped into any form or weapon. They are mainly used for self-defence, but can be used for anything. Also she is pretty cute, because she is supposed to blend in with humanity (one of her powers is the ability to not be noticed or remembered at all) - so she has to look innocent.
She, although often distant, has a cute secondary personality (Creamy~Kagarin) which is quite cunning and smug.
Obviously some people have figured out that there is a Kagari aiming to end the current timeline, so there are two companies who both interact with Kagari (or as they name her, the Key):
Gaia wishes to destroy the world, and wishes to capture Kagari to get her to destroy it.
Guardian wishes to save the world by killing Kagari.
