Cuckolding stems from the insecurity of the guy that feels as though he doesnt deserve the women he is with so in a sort of paradoxial way he jumps ahead of his (almost always false) logical conclusion and allows his girl to "pre" cheat on him thus justifying his insecurities and alleviating his biggest fear(through realising it).
