>>14992630>westoids falling for their government's information warNo, I'm providing information I gathered myself during the Cold War. Because, when I was young the Warsaw Pact was still there, we still had mandatory military service in France (10 to 18 months) and there was a distinct possibility I would have had to fight those Soviet warships.
And since my life was on the line, I was keen to gather info from all possible sources. And also tried to do the job I had for a few months (defend France) correctly.
Which is why I fully believe that Moskva was sunk by her own weaponry (this was bound to happen, those ships were literally filled with explosives of all sort) after a fire.
So perhaps the missiles did only little damage, but started a fire which had catastrophic consequences.
And it's possible that the crew did not notice the missiles (which are sea-skimming from what I understand).
"We heard an explosion, then a fire started, and after several hours of ammunition chain-exploding the ship sank" happened to many a fine warship in history.
At the beginning of WW2, battleship HMS Royal Oak was sunk by a German submarine, but didn't realize it had been torpedoed - despite having been targeted twice, by several torpedoes each time, with plenty of time to react between the first attack and the second (fatal) one.
Those Soviet megacruisers packed a lot of punch, but if you got them first you didn't have to hit hard, you would make some missile/torpedo of theirs' explode and then it would end up sunk by its own weaponry. At least it was our theory (still is).
