Intelligence blunts the instinct. Instinct is what compels you to fight, even when this is far more dangerous than hiding, because within the context of evolution, when you fail to fight, even if you survive, you are less likely to reproduce and your species is less likely to survive because you will cower in the face of danger, and eventually, the much faster predators will cannibalize your species.

Being able to detect patterns roughly correlates with the ability to be successful in both education and employment. That being said, having a modest level of pattern recognition does not provide any sort of "divine supremacy" because most systems and patterns in the world can only be understood if you have extensive background knowledge of the components of the systems which produce the patterns.

Most people with reasonable levels of pattern recognition lack the general understanding of the systems they are attempting to recognize patterns in, and this leads to endless faiths in fallacious pattern recognition because the people, apopheniacs, will see a pattern that is, to them, with limited knowledge of the background information, self-evident, even though this pattern is fallacious and an illusion created by the fact that necessary information is shrouded by the ignorance of the observer.

Also, even most intelligent people are swayed heavily by instinct such as fear of loss and risk aversion, which means that they will refuse to accept true patterns and instead delude themselves with fallacy every time that there is a real pattern which causes instinctive fear, such as criticizing black people or Jews. Intelligent people know that the truth is dangerous, so they generally avoid it like the plague and instead seek to find the safest ideology, rather than one that is empirically correct.

There is much more danger in asking the peasants to form an opinion about Joe Rape than there is by ignoring it. The peasants generally will refrain from reading, and this makes it easier to "avoid the problem" than attempting to provide legitimate rebuttal against Joe Rape, because there is no legitimate rebuttal which isn't rooted entirely in subjective fantasies like ethics.
