It says don't love your parent or guardian MORE than Jesus.
That's not the same as saying love Jesus more than your parents.
One could love their father and The Father in Heaven both, equally, and not violate the verse you have selected.

Christians converted pagans by the sword, killing thousands of Europeans while elevating Jews to privileged positions. Charlemagne executed thousand on pagan Saxons while giving Jews a monopoly on banking. Theodosius I and II put protections on Jews while destroying pagan temples and erasing European history. Not to mention Catholicism is deeply dysgenic. The smartest people in society were encouraged to become monks and priests, who weren't allowed to marry. This caused the European IQ to remain artificially low and kept administrative roles a monopoly of the Church.

The truth is divisive, it causes conflict. Jesus claimed to be the authority on truth and drew a "with me or against me' line, and it split the world into two sides like a sword. That is what it means for Jesus to be causing a divide, because of his claims and the implications.
