there is hardly anything we have to apologize for, we sent thousands of underequipped italians to die in a war that wasnt theirs and there were never any concentration camps in Italy (besides the german occupied regions after the armistice)
if anything we deserve to be considered victims

Just playing devil's advocate here but it might be more of a feeling of embarrassment than guilt in Italy. They thought Hitler would be Mussolini's puppet or sidekick or whatever and then the opposite turned out to be true. They thought Germany would be subordinate to Italy

i don't really care much for ww2 and hitler and nazis anymore desu. But it's extremely effective at controlling the public mind because as soon as someone steps out of the line or does something that is perceived as remotely right wing they can be shut down by calling them a nazi.
Also you shouldn't forget that the vast majority of germans are dogs.
