Same for any other type of corrective surgery eg on the spine, heart or brain which is also done around this time if it's needed. Or if it can't be done, it's noted and the child tagged for future surgery. This is done to avoid cripples as most types of spinal fusions and bone deformities are repairable especially if caught early on.
