Because Old English had the word woll. Won't was easier to say and became more popular and eventually became the contraction for woll not and will not. But willn't is much better imo

I love me a good burger, and I have to say they're sandwiches.
You could even make the argument that burgers are burgers because they use cooked patties instead of traditional lunch meat, but what would that make chicken sandwiches and fish sandwiches?
