When I asked my great grandmother, who had been married for 65 years, who her best friend was she would point to my grandfather and say "that's my only friend!".
This I believe is truly the only way to have a succesful marriage/relationship/etc. Mobil phones in the early 2000s begun a trend where too many people had too many friends, and nobody could decide who to settle down with - and now it has gotten worse with social media, in particular facebook where people can have 250 friends + on average.
The family is the ultimate form of liberty that human beings can enjoy if they do it properly, total and full dependence upon one another with total rejection of the entire outside world - your family is your kingdom, and beyond that is a world of foes who are out to get you.
The sheer level of social threachery that happens on an almost daily basis makes the formation of a united dependent relationship on another human being the only safeguard you have against such a tyranny.
Too many friends is a symptom of a total lack of a family life, which is defacto the most natural form of human existence in the brief time that we are here.
