Here, depends on the zone, and the racial background a lot too.
The south is very cold so most people use socks, ergo mostly soft feet. Them toes get free in summer only, sadly. Quality over quantity.
The north is more hot and humid, so a lot of sweat and odor, sandals, shoes with no socks, or straight up barefoot. Myself? Not a fan at all.
There are tons of exceptions, of course, but this is how it mostly goes around normaloids.
