They captured Gostomel airport and held it until the main force arrived, to capture an airport outside of a Capital city and defend it against elite rapid reaction forces is incredibly impressive.
Other than that, they got pushed out of Kharkov but they went in with GAZ Tigrs and Urals, they weren't expecting to fight because they thought it'd be a Crimea type thing and the locals would just welcome them.
The " VDV DROP IN THE OCEAN!!! " thing was just made up and the " MUH 6 VDV PLANES SHOT DOWN " was made up.
Overall the VDV did their jobs this war and have a good previous track record
