threads about localization really started to sow the seeds of skepticism, but i figured it might just be schizo nitpicking. when i got into kpop and started seeing the twice on crack compilations i really started to see just how much of translation is interpretation and how much creative liberty a translator can take without being questioned
i do generally trust that most translators are doing their best, but i also believe that making top-notch translations is incredibly difficult so that isn't necessarily enough. on top of that i know for a fact that there are at least a handful of bad actors out there. between the two it's incredibly difficult to consume any translated with any degree of faith that i'm being given the proper meaning
