It will seem trite to say this but remember that George Orwell was an Englishman and he wrote 1984 which was partially inspired by what was going on in Britain at the time. The people here suck, big difference between rich and poor, the police are incompetent, the government sucks, the empire is long gone, there's nothing left. Americans don't appreciate how much space the USA has. Here you are physically and metaphorically trapped by an ocean in some sort of fucked up playpen with the government and a bunch of dickheads; God help you if you are in a city. If want to immigrate to Europe almost every other country is a better choice.
