If someone's personality suddenly changed for no apparent reason, ofc I'd become significantly more distant from them, if I'd based that relationship on what I'd seen of them before then.
People have limits, too - this guy claimed basically everyone he knew left him - he must have been a right prick then, because I doubt they were actively receiving payments from him to associate with him, as he makes it out to seem.
