idk about how expensive city life can get but im sure you can cut spending here and there, and having a housewive taking care of house stuff can also save a little extra on top of giving your kids a proper upbringing. In my region people sometimes plant some tomatoes or other vegetables if they have a little backyard and save a little on grocery shopping that way
i cant speak for other regions but i know for sure in Spain people earned way less and still managed to save more than the current generation. People take what was built before them for granted as if there wasnt hard work behind it
