No; Metal (Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, etc) is derived from Blues Rock (groups like Led Zeppelin, Blue Cheer, The Doors), Blues Rock is mostly a white genre btw, people mix Blues Rock up with the Blues. Completely different genres, 50 years apart.
If you want to make similarities to past genres, metal has more in common with jazz music (nigger music derived from a style of Irish music) than it does classical music, especially in the mid-late 1980s as metal bands began taking a far more technical, and unorthodox approach to songwriting.
