Sure, we over-eat, but we do that on almost every holiday.
Fourth of July? picnic/bbq/cookout
Easter? chocolate rabbits
Christmas? Nother huge dinner.
New Years? Ok, that one's mostly over-drinking.
Halloween? Massive candy binge.
The only thing that makes Thanksgiving unique is we're supposed to spend the day together as family. And overeat, of course, but that's just normal for any holiday.
