Then we had two world wars which caused food shortages, especially WWII which had rationing into the 50s, then shortly after that we got frozen food and microwaves. Meanwhile the upper classes were eating exotic foreign food, so any semblance of 'British cuisine' was forgotten hundreds of years ago.
