Near my house is a legendary well.
It is said to lift the curses placed on all who drink from it.
And it is also home to a legendary creature, a one eyed trout!

Did you ever look through old newspaper archives, that's how I found some old legends from my village.
And there was a person in the village next to me in the 1800s who wrote a book about some legends from here.
Or even some older people could know some old stories.
Or maybe there could be signs! Here where I am there is a bridge, with a seemingly ordinary name, but the reason it was called that was because it was related to a legend of a beggarman fairy!
You never know what you could find!

It's not very mystical
There's a mausoleum on the grave of Rayimbek-batir a hero who fought the Dzungars
He died in 1785. According to legend, before dying he asked to put his dead body on a white camel and to bury him at the place where the camel would lay down. In the Civil War 1918-1922 his grave was destroyed and in 1960 the cemetery nearby was under threat of demolition but the construction equipment broke down and people considered it as a sign of great sacredness
They restored his grave and later built the mausoleum on it
It's considered sacred and people make a pilgrimage to it

It reminds me of the sirens from greek mythology i learnt at school, but is still a lot different. I like it, it would make a very good story.

A huge earthquake in 1940 completely levelled the capital and it's surroundings

The oldest thing we had nearby was a 500 year-old oak, one of the many planted by Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt around the country, but it was cut down about five years ago.

that is very interesting, i never knew new heroic tales came into being even in the 18th century. Maybe in the future there will be more heroic tales aswell.

I guess it's mostly because the Middle Age attributes like chivalry and heroic epics kind of survived in Central Asia for longer than in Europe
Batirs were similar socially to knights or samurai and they were be attributed with sacred power and legends
I don't know much about mythical creatures but there are a lot of geographical objects like big rocks, trees, mountains etc. scattered across that are attributed with mystical power good or evil, those must be remnants of shamanistic beliefs

I used to live in an old town in England. There was a bunch of ancients stone circles hidden in the countryside around it that were meant to be places for druids or faeries.
