Once republicans take over a country, that's when it usually goes to shit. Republicanism is just communism-lite. Even outside of Europe, countries that have chosen to go for the republican path instead of staying a monarchy usually stay off worse. Compare Oman to Yemen, or Iraq to Jordania, Or Bhutan to Nepal.
