Sympathy makes the world go round, from the smallest and most insignificant plank particle to the biggest clusters of galaxies, the underlying interconnectedness of the universe emerges as a necessary condition for the continuity of life and order. By means of sympathy, animals care for others and restrict their own selfish desires, and in dire situations sacrificing oneself to save others is not out of question in the animal kingdom. When man strays from the path of sympathy and puts his self-interest before everything else, he temporarily breaks the invisible chain tying him to the universe and gives rise to chaos. But if compassion is a natural instinct, why do we remain in shock upon seeing it in the other species?
