if I had people visit me and stay with me for hours including during a meal time, I will without a doubt feed them something or at the very least I'll invite them and offer them something. Even if they wont stay home with me for long enough, I'll still have to offer them something like tea, coffee, dates, sweats, etc...
in arab culture we have a room called Majlis which is a room that's similar to a guest room you could say. Earlier this year, due to unexpected circumstances I ended up with 10 to 15 men in my Majlis around dinner time. and I was alone with no one to help me cook. But I wasn't brain dead so I just ordered food from a restaurant without them knowing. and when the food arrived I invited them to have dinner with me. We did have dinner and we had a great time that night.
I would literally feel ashamed and embarrassed of myself if people stayed with me up until a meal time and I didn't offer them anything to eat. If that happened I'll probably look back at it and cringe with shame for years to come. any native to the middle east would.
