My shit enviroment may also aided that process. Most people do not have the mindset and frankly the inate moral confidence to challenege systems and analyze them. That father was incapable of seeing what was coming, and his senses were dulled from booze likely as a result of a terrible home life, or the stresses of work. Again, his genes will also play a role, but he's fundamentally a product of the system.
