> be me a few years ago
> be 15 and from a third world latam country
> not antisocial, but somewhat introvert
> spent most of my free time in my hobby, which has been programming since I was 13, really love it
> always got mediocre grades (6/7 and 8 or more just in one or two subjects)
> little physical activity, just enough to not get fat
> parents were dissapointed, they thought I was wasting my time
> they told me that if I kept getting low grades I'd have to work at [insert wagie job here] and would starve to death
> barely anything changed, eventually I'd fail a couple of subjects or tests and I would get told the same, but each time it got worse
> by the end of the year, I start doing freelancing with what I had learnt by myself, and it went surprisingly well (not a very good pay but I was more than happy)
> continue through 2021, after a few months when lockdown finally ends I stop as school gets more strict and I start caring about social life

> ff 2022
> turned 18
> it's still holiday, so I apply for different part-time programming jobs and eventually land one for a small company in Europe
> get paid $15 USD an hour, holyfuckingshit
> for contrast, a really good pay for a somewhat-skilled part-time job in my country would be $250 USD/mo
> mfw I can work from home at any fucking time of day and get $1200 USD/mo
> 1 month later: started a degree in computer science at a private uni
> private uni is really less strict than the public one, so I hardly have to study for exams
> decide that I will spend that extra time working and maintaining my social life
> ff now
> have kept working for the same company, and since last month I got a raise to $20/hr
> got 7/8 grades at uni
> going out with frends at least once or twice a week

> I have been a fucking loser for the entirety of highschool, but now I'm earning at least 5 times more than what any of my ex-classmates are probably earning
