The goal of any vaccine over time is to provide complete immunity like was done when we eradicated things like polio and smallpox. The current goal is containment, and by containing the symptoms and providing partial-immunity we can help control the spread. Same goes for the flu vaccine each year. The flu, like Covid, mutates fast so it’s hard to make one vaccine that prevents them all, but it’s still better to get it to limit spreading of it.
