there has to be some kind of long term tolerance, i'm not even that addicted right now like if i don't drink caffeine i don't feel super tired but i probably wouldn't notice a small energy drink at all

it has to do with caffeine tolerance, if you drink a lot of soda or drinks with caffeine you may have develop a high tolerance and of course different people have different limits, I had half a monster once and I thought I was gonna die

Caffeine doesn't make you less tired, it prevents you from getting more tired than you already are. Also I guess you have a massive tolerance, try drinking less and sleeping more for 2-3 weeks (good luck because you'll be tired as fuck) and it'll start to have an effect again.
